Camp Woods & Wildlife
(formerly Holiday Lake Forestry Camp)
Do you know students who are interested in natural resources?
Camp Woods & Wildlife, held by the Virginia Department of Forestry each year at Holiday Lake 4-H Education Center near Appomattox, is open to Virginia residents aged 13-16 who have not attended before. This residential camp immerses students in field-based learning and introduces them to careers in forestry, wildlife, and related fields. Nominations can be made by any non-related adult. See https://dof.virginia.gov/education-and-recreation/youth-education/camp-woods-wildlife/ for forms and information.
The registration period for the 2024 camp, to be held June 17-21, is closed.
The Virginia Department of Forestry, in cooperation with natural resource conservation agencies and organizations, has administered the camp, formerly known as Holiday Lake Forestry Camp, for more than 70 years.
This unique camping experience has introduced young Virginians to the challenges, special skills and knowledge needed for managing the forest resources we use and enjoy every day.
Camp Woods & Wildlife is ideal for students who
- wish to explore and experience activities in forestry and wildlife-related careers
- participate in forestry and wildlife judging teams, Envirothon competitions, or ecology clubs
