Conservation Engineering Technician

The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District has an opening for a full-time Conservation Engineering Technician.  In coordination with the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the position will focus on engineering and technical support for the implementation of best management practices associated with conservation projects.  The position requires outdoor work. The Technician will perform a range of technical duties pertaining to the implementation of various conservation programs and will include: assisting with the planning and layout of conservation practices, preparing engineering designs and interacting and coordinating actives with landowners, contractors and partners. This position is grant funded and will end on or around April 30, 2028 unless additional funding is received to extend the position.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.  Requirements for the position include proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.  Applicants must also have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, multitask, prioritize, be a self-starter and communicate effectively.  The ideal applicant will have knowledge and experience of basic engineering practices and principles needed to prepared designs, ability to complete basic surveying and drafting tasks and knowledge of construction and excavation.  In addition, the applicant should have knowledge of non-point source pollution, agricultural operations, soil and water conservation issues, and agricultural best management practices.   Employment is conditional upon successful completion of state and federal background checks.

The hiring range is $40,000-$52,000, commensurate with skills and experience.   Benefits package includes health insurance, VRS retirement, and paid leave.

Administrative Coordinator

The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District has an opening for a full-time Administrative Coordinator.  The position is responsible for performing a wide range of administrative duties focused on providing operational and administrative support for the District’s activities, services and programs.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.  Requirements for the position include proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace applications.  Preference may be given to candidates with knowledge and experience with general accounting principles and/or proficiency with QuickBooks.  Applicants must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  Applicants must also have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, multitask in a busy environment, prioritize, and communicate effectively.  The ideal applicant will have knowledge of soil and water conservation issues.   Employment is conditional upon successful completion of background checks.
