Where to Plant: Adapted to most soil textures, except heavy clays. Well-drained soils in full sun or partial shade are best suitable.
Height and Uses: Grows to an average height of between 6-10 feet. Used to attract many forms of wildlife.
Leaves: The leaves are similar to the Chinese and American chestnut only smaller. They are 3-6 inches long with pointed teeth.
Nuts: The nuts are enclosed in spiny burs about an inch in diameter and golden in color. The nuts of Allegheny chinkapin range from chocolate brown to blackish-brown.
